Green Tenant Finish: Meeting the City of Boulder's New Energy Codes
How do the new City's Energy Codes impact commercial remodeling projects? Please join Kirk Moors, reviewer and planning official for the City of Boulder, Jon Brooks of AEDG and Kate Leggett of ESA, in a case study presentation addressing Boulder's new energy code requirements in a LEED for Commercial Interiors project.
Kirk Moors has been working for two and a half years as the Assistant Building Official and Senior Plan Reviewer. In the course of working 20 years in the building regulatory field he has worked at permit intake, inspection and plan review. He maintains International Code Council certifications for plan review, building, plumbing and mechanical inspection.
Kate Leggett is a Project Designer at ESA Architects in Boulder. She has been involved in residential, multi-use and commercial design projects. Kate took the initiative and became the first person at ESA to become a LEED® Accredited Professional, and subsequently encouraged others in the firm to become accredited. She manages in-house sustainable education resources, LEED® AP certification and sustainable product updates to keep the office aware of and using the most up to date technology. She also regularly reviews projects with the project managers to ascertain levels of sustainability.
Kate is currently involved in a tenant finish project in downtown Boulder. Flatirons Bank was submitted to the City of Boulder after the implementation of the City of Boulder updated energy efficiency requirements on March 2, 2009. In addition to these local energy requirements the bank is also pursuing a LEED® Silver Certification Level.
Jon Brooks helped to found AEDG, Inc. in 2004 and has been an integral part of the design team. He provides the expertise and coordination commitment required for lighting, power systems, and sustainable systems.
Jon has had the opportunity to work on a number of LEED facilities. This has increased his awareness of energy saving strategies even when projects are not seeking LEED certification.
Jon is dedicated to maintaining an up to date knowledge base on ever changing electrical technologies and standards in order to provide the most appropriate solutions for the specific project and owner.
