Governor's Energy Office New Suite of Rebates for 2010 and
The City of Boulder Overview of SmartRegs and "2 Techs and a Truck"

Beginning in early 2010, the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) will be offering rebates and incentives for Colorado residents and businesses that install energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in their home or business.

Funding for these rebates is provided by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. These rebates will:
  • Increase consumer awareness and access to energy efficiency services and renewable energy technologies.

  • Help Coloradans save money on their utility bills and stabilize their energy costs.

  • Stimulate Colorado’s economy.

  • Foster sustainable energy efficiency and renewable energy industries that provide quality, local jobs.

The City of Boulder's SmartRegs and 2 Techs and a Truck

The City of Boulder's SmartRegs proposal includes options for addressing energy efficeincy in efficiency housing as a component of an update to  the city's Housing Code and Rental Licensing Program. The city is also actively designing the "2 Techs and a Truck" program to provide implementation assistance to any code requirements as well as facilitation of energy conservation and efficiency city-wide. This talk will provide an overview of the latest imformation in information the SmartRegs proposal and the 2 Techs and a Truck design process

Speakers:
Mona Newton

Mona Newton is the Central Regional Representative with the Governor’s Energy Office.  Ms. Newton presents the GEO’s programs to communities, counties and utilities, aiding in the formation of partnerships that result in increased Energy Efficiency, and utilization of Renewable Energy. She has been working energy efficiency and renewable energy arena for 20+ years.
Prior to joining the GEO, Mona was the Marketing Director for Bella Energy, an energy solutions company, and sold RECs from a Colorado Wind Farm for Community Energy.   She also developed a model for  a community-owned wind farm in partnership  with Boulder Community Hospital.

For 16 years she was Executive Director of the Center for ReSource Conservation, a nonprofit organization. During that time she helped to found ReSource, the used building materials salvage yard – with a branch Ft. Collins.  She was recognized with an E-Chievement Award from E-Town for that work.  

She received a MA from the University of Denver Graduate School of International Studies and a BA from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

Yael Gichon
Yael Gichon is a residential sustainability coordinator for the City of Boulder.  Her primary responsibilities are to oversee the residential energy and waste reduction programs promoting conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy for the city’s Climate Action Plan, funded by the nation’s first municipal carbon tax. She has a strong background working in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable development and agriculture, and ecology for ten years. Gichon has been in the Boulder community since 1999 working with Jade Mountain, Gaiam Real Goods, Namaste Solar Electric and Growing Gardens. While focused in Boulder, her work has also taken her to abroad to places such as India and New Zealand. Gichon holds a master’s degree in interdisciplinary ecology from the University of Florida.
