Jamie GoodmanSoon after moving to Boulder in 2007, I joined the BGBG in 2008 in an effort to re-plant my environmentally sensitive roots. I quickly joined the Membership Committee and have since held various positions-from minute taker to co-chair, to chair of the Membership Committee, and now the Business and Professional Development Committee. My past experience as a consultant for the Environmental Control Committee of a residential community long ago planted the seeds for my dream of bringing architectural design, sustainable design and best practices together with community awareness. I believe that a large part of what the BGBG stands for is just that. My participation with the BGBG has expanded my horizon of Green Building and with the continued support of its volunteers will no doubt aid in the success of not just my own dreams but those of many like minded individuals.

James Michael HartBeing involved in the guild has helped me to get to know architects, designers, and contractors in Boulder. While volunteering for the guild I've learned about certifications that I think may be beneficial to my career. I also enjoy attending the brown bags because they teach me about sustainable design and keep me up to date with developments in our field.

Daniel O'ConnorI am a photographer specializing in green & sustainable architecture & interiors. I have volunteered for the Guild for 4+ years now. I enjoy creating the architectural & location portrait photography for our BGBG website, advertising and outreach eblasts, etc. I also do photo documentation at our Annual meeting, BOSS Tour, Green Building Conferences, etc. My participation and takeaway experience has been very rewarding. Building communities and preserving resources by designing and building elegant sustainable homes and work structures is serious business. But honestly, I find the shared knowledge & comraderie amongst peers is very inspiring and dare I say, just plain FUN. Join a committee and get involved...

Kelle Boumansour I have volunteered for a variety of sustainably based non-profits for several years to assist in educating the community about energy efficiency, energy conservation, waste reduction, and water conservation. In addition, I have begun exploring my talents in Interior Design and Architectural Drafting with an emphasis on sustainable, green design. By volunteering with the Boulder Green Building Guild I am able to grow professionally in the design and architecture field, network with other professionals and serve my community. I greatly enjoyed working on BGBG's Farmer's Market booth for the 2011 summer season, and I look forward to more opportunities to work with BGBG and serve our community.

Volunteering with BGBG continues to provide a unique opportunity to collaborate with local professionals on design related topics that I am sincerely passionate about. In early 2011 I joined the Footprint Radio team- a sustainable building technology radio show and podcast supported by BGBG. With a background in architecture, the show has provided me with a rewarding opportunity to further my education and share this knowledge with others. Volunteering has not only expanded my resume to present a well-rounded individual, but it has also introduced me to numerous professionals on a local and even national level. Staying involved with BGBG is a fulfilling experience that keeps me updated with the relevant issues, technology, and advances in the green industry

Where else can you get credit for planning important events, hanging out with great people, and marketing your business at the same time? I've never thought of my participation as "volunteering" because the benefits have always far outweighed the effort. I consider committee involvement and helping out at events to be a privilege of membership, since these activities can reinforce important relationships while providing opportunities to have an active say in the guild's development. As a tradesperson offering services to the green building community, the credibility and exposure earned through such involvement are invaluable.

David ScottI have been a member of BGBG for three years primarily because I believe in sustainable building practices and I know that we must create value for the work that members of the guild are doing. If BGBG members are to continue investing in green/sustainable home features, they must receive a return on their investment. For that to become a reality the guild members and the real estate community need to work together to create value for green features.
I have volunteered for the Education Committee and the Business Development Committee; because both can directly impact the industry and the success of green building practices.

I've been a videoprapher for 20 years. I love to make videos for clients whose work focuses on environmental themes. I'm especially passionate about getting the message out about the many ways we can reduce our use of fossile fules. Green building is one of the most influential venues through which we can achieve this. That's why I love volunteering for BGBG. Everyone who is connected with BGBG is deeply committed to providing their clients with the most efficient and effective strategies for energy use in their homes. I learn a great deal from my BGBG colleagues and enjoy sharing that information through my videos.

Diane MerkerI have been a member of the Event and Outreach committee for about three years. Working as a one woman business can feel rather isolated. I enjoy my work with the E and O because it gives me the chance to connect with other people who share my passion for energy conservation. Our committee meetings are always lively, and we seem to accomplish a lot in a small amount of meeting time. BGBG has not only added to my customer list, but it reinforces the reputation of my business, Positive Energy. BGBG members are viewed as people always learning, always educating themselves to stay abreast of the latest in the field.

Tasha HaleviFootprint Radio Host & Producer
In 2006, I was tricked into joining a what was then called the education committee, so it's a "chair person of committees past" who is really to thank! Since then it's been a pleasure to work on several committees and now with Footprint Radio. The most rewarding part of participating with BGBG is to volunteer along side so many outstanding members of the community. I have been privileged to work with many volunteers who are truly committed to the BGBG mission, sustainable building, and the community. As the BGBG community we have a lot to teach and a lot to learn - I'm grateful BGBG has given me the opportunity to explore and encourage that dynamic dialog between our community and the greater green building community. It takes a lot of shoulders to carry the great work of BGBG, and I'm glad to share my shoulders in the community effort!

Henry Mueller"Mueller's work has focused on the design of energy-efficient and sustainable buildings. Realizing the public's general lack of knowledge of how the built environment impacts our energy use and carbon footprint, he became active the Boulder Green Building Guild (BGBG) and joined the education/journal committee.
As result of serving on the City of Boulder's Climate Action Plan - Advisory Group, Mueller focuses his volunteer efforts toward reducing the largest portion of Boulder's carbon footprint, the energy consumption of its buildings. He has worked with BGBG to expand the group's scope to include green commercial buildings. Along with other motivated members, he has been active in starting the commercial building committee whose primary mission is to promote, educate, and disseminate information to BGBG and the general public regarding green, sustainable institutional and commercial building"

Committee CO-Chair ~ Residential Events & Outreach Committee
"I have volunteered for the E/O committee for over 2 years, currently am the Co-Chair and I stay active because it's a win-win. The committee experience has contributed to my resume and connected me with peer business owners as well as added valuable contacts who helped build my business. Attending BGBG events regularly keeps me in the heartbeat of the industry and teaches me something new every time. I encourage others to get involved with a committee, not only because BGBG runs mostly on volunteers, but the take-away can give you a surprising edge in building your green business."
